Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives

I have dreamt of going to the Maldives ever since I saw my first image of tiny islands dotted in crystal clear waters. And Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives lived up to everything I have dreamt of (and more)!

Located in the Meemu Atoll, the island is one of the largest shallow lagoons amongst resorts in the Maldives. Upon arriving to the Island, we were met by an incredible welcome of drums and then took a seat with a fresh drink while we checked in.

A golf buggy will take you to your room, while your driver explains a bit more about the island to you. By the time we got to our overwater bungalow, our luggage was already there waiting for us (which was perfect because I made the mistake of wearing leggings to an island that was on the equator).

Accommodation

If you are able to get an overwater bungalow, I would highly recommend it. Being able to jump in the water and snorkel whenever you wanted was so special. There is plenty of wildlife to look out for and it’s not too deep. Just remember to be super careful where you step and that your suncream is safe for oceans. If you’re not a strong swimmer I would recommend holding on to the stairs and just putting your head under as the current can feel strong at times.

Another special aspect of staying over the water is that you can spot the fish and wildlife while you take a gentle stroll to and from dinner. We were lucky enough to spot a few rays and sharks. If you’re staying in the beach villas, I’m sure you can still go over and do this, just make sure you do go, it’s worth going out of your way!

Meals

Our bungalow was located in the middle of the row and on the side of the sunset so it became tradition that we would watch the sunset, head to the bar for a drink and grab our table for dinner. The table you get for the first night is the same table for your whole stay which we thought was a nice touch.

We don’t do all inclusive a lot so even though we knew the food would be amazing, we were worried about the variety. But we needn’t worry at all! There was something new to try every evening which is what we tried to do. Shout out to our incredible waiter [name] who was with us every evening and looked after us like we were the only people in the restaurant. Breakfast and lunches were just as good but with the temperature being so hot, all I wanted was something light and easy.

Activities
Water

The majority of the stay was spent just enjoying the warm weather after what had felt like the longest winter back in the UK. But the island does offer activities and adventures to enjoy. There’s a few you can book at Reception or for more water based activities, you can visit their on-island dive school where you will find the most helpful and knowledgable divers. They know the waters like the back of their hand, and you can tell. As someone who is afraid of water, this is very reassuring.

We were allocated a set of snorkels and fins as part of our stay but depending on when you read this, you may want to check with them before travelling. We weren’t aware of this so did take our own set. And if you’re not a strong swimmer, don’t worry, there’s life jackets in the room which you’re required to take if you go on their free daily snorkelling sessions. Just be at reception with your snorkel, fins and jacket and they will take you out to the reef!

I’ve always wanted to see a turtle in the wild, so when we saw the sign for diving with turtles, I couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Thankfully, I got to not only see one but be within an arms width! I was trying to back away to give it space but it just kept swimming towards me! If they deem it too dangerous, you they will move the date which you being charged!

The Island

If you would prefer to stay on land, there’s still plenty to do. If it’s luxury and indulgence that your looking for, check out the Spa which I unfortunately didn’t get to experience or the gym which over looks the ocean which isn’t a bad view if you want to get your steps in in the comfort of air-con. The bar offers a pool table, chess table and during the evenings there’s usually something different such as live music or cinema nights on the beach.

One thing I highly recommend doing is downloading a star’s app. The minimal light pollution means the stars are so bright they are visible just sitting at the bar!

The vegetation is also fascinating. Given the heat, you would think not much would be able to grow but there there is green everywhere!

One of the best parts of the Island is definitely the staff. They are some of the kindest people you could ever meet and could never do enough for you! We unfortunately had to take a trip to the island doctor and we were made to feel at ease at all time.

If you ever get the opportunity to go, do it! I wish we had done a few more activities but in all honesty, it was just nice to get to relax in paradise. It truly did feel like we were on another planet.
