Es Blau des Nord

If you’re looking for a few days (or weeks) of nature and peace, this is the place to be.

Location

Located in the north of Mallorca, Es Blau De Nord is nestled between two national parks meaning you are surrounded by nature and tranquility. On one side is Mallorca’s famous mountains, and on the other Alcudia Bay. On a clear day, you can see all the way round the bay, given you an amazing view of the mountains in the distance. It’s about an hour from Palma airport and if you’re not hiring a car, the hotel can arrange a taxi in advance which was around 100 Euros. I would highly recommend organising this in advance as there quite a lot of flights coming in all the time.

When you arrive, the aesthetics make you instantly feel like you’ve arrived at a spa (interior goals for me) and you are greeted by the most wonderful staff. While there is a public path that goes round the hotel, it still feels very private when you’re relaxing by the pool.

Things to do

If you’d like to explore, the small town of Colònia de Sant Pere is only a 20 minute walk away and the slightly bigger town of Arta 25 minute taxi ride away. If you’re there on a Tuesday, their market is great for picking up some unique pieces and don’t forget to visit the beautiful Santuari de Sant Salvador. It’s a bit of an incline but I did it in sandals and the view is absolutely worth it!

But you don’t have to go far to enjoy the surroundings. If you’re after more of a stroll, the exit from the outside dining area will start the beautiful walk along the nature reserve path. Parallel to S’Arenal beach, there are bridges onto the actual beach if you want to take breaks and take in the ocean air. If you continue down, you’ll find the Torre d’enflaciò naval towers, Sa Canova Beach and end at the small town of Son Serra de Marina.

If you enjoy a hike, it’s close enough to Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant. We will definitely be going back in cooler months to give some of the trails a go.

Food & drink

If you’re looking to stay where you are and dine on site, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and snacks are all available. One thing that really drew me to the hotel was how aware they were of their impact of their business, and their menu is no exception. They have a ‘KM 0’ policy which means the majority of the agricultural products (vegetables and fruits) used to prepare dishes are grown on the island using environmentally friendly production methods. They’ve also taken the initiative to eliminate all fried items from the menu and use other cooking techniques such as boiling, steaming, baking, and grilling instead. As well as icons to show dietary requirements, they also have an image of the island next to beverages that are made by local producers. If you’re like me and like to check out the menu prior to going, it can be found here. As well as the stunning food, if you get it at the right time, you will also get to enjoy the most beautiful sunset over the mountains in the distance.

If you’re staying a little longer, you may want to switch it up and head into Colònia de Sant Pere which has plenty of restaurants and bars to indulge in. I highly recommend Restaurante Playa. It’s a beautiful spot to watch the sun set behind the mountains in the distance, and the food is great value for money. My beetroot carpaccio with goats cheese and honey was amazing and could have fed two or even three small portions! If you’re just looking for a drink SEN – Chill Beach Bar is the one. There’s also a little supermarket in the town where you can pick up snacks and drinks to try and help save some costs. We picked up some snacks and drinks, and kept them in the fridge in our room.

Services

Arriving early or leaving late? You can leave any luggage at Reception while you wait. For a hotel on the smaller side, it offers a range of services from kayak and bicycle hire, to its in-house gym and spa. The gym is basic but if you just need a space to be able to do a workout with minimal equipment, it’s perfect. It does have a spin bike, squat rack and TRX bands. You can also use the yoga studio, take part in a yoga class or grab a mat and head out to the bay for a bit of self practice.

If you’re staying for a little longer, or it’s a stop over on a long trip, they also have a laundry rooms which could be really handy, especially if you have kids with you. Pets are allowed (I believe there is an extra charge) and plenty of people take advantage of this offer so you won’t stand out from the crowd.
